Setoml — The Raven [Black/Doom Metal, Review]

Since the release of the debut album “Reincarnation”, which was a decent mix of Ukrainian lyrics, characteristic vocals and mixture of black and doom metal, Setoml started to work on diversification of their sound landscape. On new couple of records, especially the latest EP “Raven”, the direction of the band can be recognized now. There are more symphonic elements present this time, while guitar and drum parts remind of the initial Setoml concept. However, along with diverse vocals on the new record (more screaming, changing with growling parts), guitar work seem to distance from the doom metal roots of Setoml and tend to be close to atmospheric black metal sound. The band mixes different sub-genres of heavy metal and definitely released a very solid record.
